It is also home to a number of universities, including the University of Texas at Austin, which is the largest university in the state

Austin is the capital city of the U.S. state of Texas.

Austin Texas as well as the seat and largest city of Travis County, with portions extending into Hays and Williamson counties. Incorporated on December 27, 1839, it is the 11th-most populous city in the United States, the fourth-most-populous city in Texas, and the second-most-populous state capital city after Phoenix, Arizona .[ It was also the fastest growing large city in the United States in 2015 and 2016 and was the fifth fastest growing city with a population above 50,000 between 2010 and 2019 overall.  It is the southernmost state capital in the contiguous United States and is considered a "Beta " global city as categorized by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network.
